Carter Devlin had been pulled away from whatever he was doing and told to get to the Danger Room immediately, it was not an option. The Danger Room only held one person in it, and that was the Headmaster, who was personally going to supervise this one. Devlin had been chosen specifically for this one. Devlin had been told to gather anything he might need to fight, and to be in the Danger Room at a certain time. It was nearing that time now.
Carter Devlin entered the Danger Room, more or less confused... He had accidentally slept in way too much and had proceeded to run about, collecting his things and changing into his suit. The lad would enter the room, a belt wrapped around his waist, water bottles and food pills apparently stuffed in the pockets of the belt, along with firecrackers and cherry bombs. He didn't really have much gear, so he entered the Danger Room, throwing the Headmaster a puzzled look.
Bryton Yorkshire would nod to Devlin. "Hello. You've been chosen to participate in a very special Danger Room session. It will test your strength, creativity, as well as your dexterity. It seems as though you have anything in order, so please step into the Danger Area. Brace yourself," the Headmaster say, walking over to give the boy a reassuring pat on the back. He knew that if anyone could survive this, Devlin could. With that, he went to go stand back at the glass, waiting for the boy to get situated within the Danger Area.
Carter Devlin listened curiously, a delighted and disturbing smile lighting up his features as he snickered gleefully. "Oh yeh? Awrigh' less git it started, eh?" The boy would move to the center but, kept his back closer to the wall.. though he knew it'd disappear. Arms stretched out, palm facing downwards at first before slowly turning up towards the ceiling. Eyes closed and he began to charge the air all around him, feeling the molecules heat up, feeling the tension stir. He was preparing for whatever came at him. [1/2]
When the boy got situated within the area, the screen in the corner lit up. Antartic Simulation activated. With that, the entire room transformed, fading from the original, bland room, to the giant expanse of the Antartic. Snow and ice made up the environment. Walls erected around Devlin, two long walls that made a hallway, and in front of him would be a tunnel. However, before Devlin could begin to move into it, humanoid creatures came into existence. 20 of them, each of them looking rather fish like, with blue hair that was beautiful and flowing. Each of them raised their hands in a specific manner, water flowed from their fingertips, forming into balls. Each of them stood in front of him in a battle formation.
Carter Devlin froze momentarily, not expecting this... Anger flared briefly but, he kept focusing on the charge and then, his body erupted in flames. Noticing the snow and ice under his feet, he was careful to not concentrate any flames past his knee, let alone he'd melt the ice and send himself who knows where. This took up a good deal of concentration, as it forced him to restrain... and so he was caught off guard, the water sizzling against his flames.. "Oy.. wut dafuck.." Was muttered and the flames around his body grew outward.. flickering strangely as he forced them to remain strong but not too strong. It was hard but he managed. The boy spread his arms out away from his body on either side, fire beginning to be streamed and controlled, turning into long whips. He flicked them around his body before running forward, whipping them about and aiming to sweep the creatures legs out from under them. [2/2]
The creatures watched, not at all phased by the fire. The one closest to Devlin would thrust her hands outwards, and the water would stretch, into a whip of her own. She gripped the handled, then cracked it at the other's whips. All but two of the others (the two on each end) did the same, water whipping outwards and lashing at Carter and his whips. The two creatures on the end of the group (formed in a triangle) manipulated their water in a way that was odd. It began spinning in their hands, slowly and steadily for now. But it could be seen that it was quickly growing into a threat. Headmaster's voice rang Fight wisely. If you melt too much snow, they'll have more ammo against you.[/i] That was all he said as he watched from behind the glass, keeping his hand on the computer interface. [1/3]
Carter Devlin heard the Headmaster's voice, almost panicking but not quite.. He would defeat this arseholes and be victorious.. He wouldn't lose. Dev noticed the others hanging back and dispelled the fire around his body, it would take up too much energy. The whips would also fade away as he ran forward, pushing off his toe and flipping, bringing his leg up and over and then down, also bringing with him a thick and long stream of fire, aiming to bring it down on the center of the group. Once landed he would begin punching the air, sending concussive balls of flames at the aliens spinning the water (four in total, aiming to take out the right, right middle, left and left middle). Arms tucked behind him and he sucked the heat out of the air, bringing it into a the center of his hands, charging the molecules and sending them out into a burst of flames, a powerful but controlled blast, aimed for the closest aliens.
The group scattered when they all saw Devlin make a more radical move. Instead of dispersing though, they formed a circle around him, using his own choice against him. He successfully wounded 3 of them, the very last being able to whip a sheild in front of her at the last movement. The two who he'd seen that were holding back were not in the circle, but now outside of the circle. The water which they held was growing, swirling, into what seemed to be right now mini-whirlpools. Both of theirs were beginning to get big. The leader of the group clicked her tongue a number of times very rapidly, as if to communicate with the rest of the group. They all held out their hands, as the water that they manipulated formed a wall, a circular wall in front of the group. It moved slowly. Their heads fell back, as they closed their eyes and chanted something. Something was brewing. [2/3]
Carter Devlin spun his body around as he was circled, feeling like he was being circled by sharks... "Yew won' stop me..." He looked around, looking for a way out... something to give him an idea.. Energy began to hum as he turned his body, spinning slowly at first... Slowly his body kept spinning, his own movements creating friction in the air and he used that to spurn the fires on. He spun faster and faster, eyes closed so he wouldn't flippin' puke... More and more fire began to build up and his form soon began a fiery shadow in the miniature inferno. "Can' stop me!" Roared out, a jet of fire at head level beginning to poured out of the twisting fiery tornado, and the ferocious roar continuing as he heated the molecules quicker, faster. The fire he breathed out only grew as he inhaled the heat, exhaling more flames. The first time wouldn't have hit the group but the second time, it would've been like a continuous whip of flames. [1/2]
The group continued to chant in their foreign language, sheer force of will keeping the wall up. Their own control began to contradict his, as the temperature dropped around them. It'd be a fight to see who could go harder. But, Devlin's real problem came in the form of what the two girls had been planning. They threw their hands upwards, and huge whirlpools formed in their hands. They tossed each one upwards, and the tornados of water would join when they hit eachother in the circle. Most likely, this would be more than enough to extinguish this own fire, as the water from the snow he was melting collected into the tornados and the shield as well. The energy that it took to achieve this knocked the two girls out, leaving the group of 15 to keep it in control. His heat was melting the ice he was standing on. He had to slow down and think, lest he fall into freezing cold water that was now only 2 feet below him. [3/3]
Carter Devlin unleashed the full extent of the tornado, whips suddenly lashing out from within, as if the tornado was the Sun. The tornado itself grew too hot and as if on cue, lifted up off the ground, it was short in and of itself but what it lacked in size, it made up for in raw power. It hit the other cyclones and seemed to fizzle, weakening as it hit and then the water turned to steam, the heat from the steam being withdrawn and sucked into the tornado. Sure, their tornado was bigger and badder but he was fueling his directly, still within the center of it, sending random spurts of flames out. For now the freezing cold water underneath wasn't a problem as he was more or less levitating above the ice. [1/3]
As they began to sense danger, each of them lifted their head, their eyes glowing with some sort of ancient energy. Taarahkassserrr, taarahkasssserrr, taarahkasser[/i], their mystic voices rang. The ice kept melting, and melting and melting. The cyclone had been mostly dwindled, so something else began to build. But it was quick. The melted ice was forming pools upon ground, and each of the pools seemed to spring to life, exploding upwards then freezing in spikes. The heat combatted with it, but the ice was being kept frozen by the group. And slowly, as ice melted more and more and fuel was added, the spikes grew, all stretching towards Devlin. It was slow. The circular wall of water froze as well, also kept frozen by the will of 15 cyrokinetics. Devlin was going to have to take a new tactic, as it seemed his tactic was only making them stronger. In an instant, the circle joined hands, and their voices rang. The spikes were razor sharp. [1/2]
Carter Devlin dropped out of the tornado, forcing the energy back into his bad, trying not to waste it.. He slipped on the ice, being forced into a crouch as he kept his balance.. Energy glowed in his eyes but, he forced his temperature to stay even, enough to keep him warm but not enough to freeze. If any spikes came at him, he'd create a short burst of fire around himself as a shield. Weak spot, weak spot, weak spot. He finally looked over the group, trying to figure out if there were any differences.. There. One of them had blue markings.. He didn't know why but it was enough. He charged, fending off any attacks, set on the woman... He'd shoot himself off the ground, aiming to blast her with a long, continuous stream of fire with his right hand while the other held a thick ball of flame, which seemed to be growing. [2/3]
The group watched as the boy moved, but all but one of them seemed to change their expressions as he focused his attention on the leader. She was so gone in her chant that she hadn't been prepared for when he attacked, and so she fell easily. The group lost it's control. Nawww nawwwww. Aww nawww![/i] They all cried, falling to their knees, as the leader's eyes stopped glowing and her body went even colder than before. The spikes all shot off at Devlin, but fell against his shield. The ice wall also fell, as they lost the ability to keep it up. They were all open now. [2/2]
Carter Devlin laughed hysterically as he landed on the ice, melting slowly so he landed smoothly and then easing up on the exchange of temperature. He felt the fire flowing within him and his eyes released it first, as if a warning... One hand turned into a circle against his lips and he exhaled... saliva? He sprayed the liquid he had been working up on the group of aliens and then, inhaled, the muscles in his chest contracting as he continued to inhale, taking whatever heat was in the atmosphere around them, any heat that lay in their bodies and sucking it inside himself. He released it from his mouth, a dragon came out with the fire, entirely made of the energy... It roared as he did and grew in size to become as big as a Voltswagon van... And then it flew at the leader, striking her first before it spread into several smaller dragons, spreading as soon as it hit the leader, and hitting the chests of the others all at once. As soon as it had happened it had stopped and Dev knelt tiredly. [3/3]
The Leader was incinerated, and all the others defeated with the dragon. One would expect the Danger Room to return to its normal decor, but in fact it didn't. The Headmaster's voice rang, Very good, Devlin. You've finished the first task. But you're heat has weakened the tunnel, which leads to your only way out. Can you get through it before it collapses?[/i] Devlin would have to act fast, as the cracking of the tunnel could be heard from where he stood. If you're too hot, you'll make it fall even faster. If you're not fast enough, it'll collapse on you. Think fast. If it collapses, you'll have failed.[/i]
Carter Devlin blinked as he heard the Headmasters voice, about to celebrate... "Wassis? Eh.. foul play!" He had little time though, reaching into the compartments on his belt and ingesting some pills, vitamins, nutritional tablets, a bunch of energy packed into a tiny package. A bottle of water was consumed as he took off running, not knowing how he'd do this... Unless. "Well, the tunnel's already gonna collapse... No helpin' it..." Hands pressed to his side, palms facing behind him as he sent a surge of fire behind him, jetting him forward through the cave, undoubtedly melting all the ice behind him but the ice in front of him remained unharmed, hopefully.
When the fire was jetted backwards, the tunnel literally began crashing just feet behind Devlin. He had a ways to go, as it was a rather long tunnel. For now, Carter was safe, but the tension was getting too great for the part of the tunnel in front of him, and it was beginning to crack and fall as well, not violently quite yet, but he'd have to speed up if he wanted to beat the speed of destruction. If he didn't speed up, he'd be caught in the falling ice within seconds, and that should have been made very clear to him by the way it was all beginning to fall.
Carter Devlin looked down and saw the floor underneath him crack.. His heart sped up but, he still didn't look frighten... Even if he was beginning to panic. Only slightly.. "C'mon flames... don' fail me now.. We can do this!" He didn't have it in him to speed up, though.. He had never done anything like this before. Help me out, help me out, c'mon do something. As if acting on its own, the flames from the jet enveloped his body suddenly, setting his form ablaze... He was falling through the ice now, panic stirring in his chest and then suddenly.. the flames spread to his feet and then under and then a trail of fire was seen underneath his form. I failed, I can't fail. C'mon, we can pull through! C'MON GIVE ME SOME POWER! And suddenly the flames erupted under his form, pushing him off before he hit the water and he took off, actually... flying?! Arms stayed at his side as he zoomed through the tunnel, confusion and bewilderment tainting his emotions.
Bryton smiled from behind the glass, very proud to say that he was really helping this kid use his powers. Devlin had a ways to go, but once he sped up, he would be bursting through it with ease, and he'd come out the other end safely, the tunnel collapsing behind him. He'd gotten through the second task. Congratulations, Devlin. You've pushed yourself farther than you ever have today. But you still have one. more. task.[/i] The Headmaster's voice called. You'll have some time to regroup[/i]. In the distance, a loud screeching sound could be heard. It sounded like some sort of... giant bird. [1/3]
Carter Devlin laughed as he flew through the tunnel, turning his flying form and swirling through, bursting out the end and allowing himself to fall gently to the ground, landing in the mixture of snow and ice and standing. That had used up the energy he had just taken in and so, he sat in the ice, breathing hard as he felt the artificial sun's heat on him. Despite the chilling surroundings, it still provided heat and so he absorbed what he could from the seemingly endless supply, eating the rest of his food pellets and indulging in the last bottle of water. "Awrigh', 'Eadmaster... less git this ova with... Oi think Oi'm gunna 'ave ah date afta this.." He snickered casually as he stood up, once more cocky about his abilities as he simply stood, waiting. [1/2]
There was nothing currently happening, other than the call of that wild bird. If Carter took special notice, he'd see the wings of the animal flap up over the glaciers every once in a while. As it approached, the constant cracking of ice could be heard, each movement of the ice-covered bird causing the ice to crack and reform, much like that of Iceman. But, Carter still had time, as the bird had yet to come forth yet. [2/3]
Carter Devlin watched the bird from afar, squinting his eyes and shielding them with a hand. The ice was blinding but he picked up on the bird. "Oh..? Awrigh' then..." He relaxed a bit, changing his current train of thought and increasing the flow of energy about him. He had more time and so he used it wisely. Legs parted and arms stretched out above him, fingers flexing. He probably looked ridiculous bit, he didn't care... [2/3]
When the bird made its entrance, it made a grand one. It would explode through a glacier, sending a huge flurry of ice shards right at Carter, while also spitting out a beam of blue energy, which would make contact with the ground just in front of Carter. From that spot would sprout a huge wall of ice, which was cracking already, threatening to fall right on him. It let out a wicked loud screech, and then it disappeared in a puff of snow. Where had it gone? [3/3]
Carter Devlin began to shoot off fire bolts at the creature, which if they hit they would explode instantly with the power of a frag grenade. If they didn't hit, they only had enough power to survive the same distance as the ones that had hit the bird and so, they'd explode near the creature. Once the wall of ice began to tumble, he bent his knees and soon his body was encased in flames and he once more shoot off. He'd push through the wall, melting it and landed on the other side, the fire disappearing. It seemed he was learning control... Allowing a lot of power to be expelled in short bursts as to not exhaust him. [3/6]
The bird had been hit only once before it'd disappeared, but it seemed not to bother the bird at all. It had reformed behind another glacier, and it burst through it like it had before, sending a flurry of large and small ice shards right at him. The bird stood tall, reaching up 4 stories with an impossible wingspan. The bird lifted it's head and called out upwards... Exposing a small patch of feather underneath it's neck. It only lasted a second, as it lowered it's head again, then exploded into the flurry of snow once more. It reformed in the air, swooping down straight towards Devlin. [1/3]
Carter Devlin punched the air rapidly, quick, continuous punches that sent thin but concussive bolts of flames at each icicle, careful not to waste. He didn't shoot of any more than he needed, waiting and watching.. It was unusual how patient he was being but, he wasn't going to fail and look like an idiot... He was strong and he wasn't stupid, despite how he came across. Dev noticed the feathers but, didn't act waiting... In the meantime, fire covered his arms, a defensive measure. [4/6]
The bird came down straight towards Carter, and if he didn't dodge, it would send it's beak straight into Devlin's left arm, despite the fire being there. As the bird approached, Devlin would likely notice that the temperature around the area that the bird was in was even colder than the Antartic. If the beak hit Devlin, it would freeze his arm. But, it would be easy to dodge as the bird, even while flying, moved rather slowly. Regardless of whether it hit, it disappeared in another snow-port, and reappeared a few hundred feet away. It opened it's mouth, leaning forward and screeching a continious loud and horrid sound. [2/3]
Carter Devlin shot up as he saw the bird coming, taking to the skies once again, he wouldn't go to high, the altitude would extinguish his flames... He had seen Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer after all. Plus, he knew he wasn't built for the skies.. He wasn't a bird! The bird was slow and so as he shot up, he'd aim to allow himself to free fall, aiming to land on the bird's back. If unsuccessful, he'd try again, aiming to fall so he would land at the base of the bird's neck, holding on with his fiery grip. What exactly was he planning? Who knew? [5/6]
Carter would land on the bird, but probably be thrown off during the sn0w-port, unless he had one wicked grip. In any case, if he HAD held on, he probably wouldn't be on there for long. The screech, especially at such a distance, would be near unbearable as it got louder and louder. It got so loud, in fact, that all the glaciers within a 20 feet shattered. If Carter'd been thrown off, he wouldn't know where the bird was, as the snow that had been thrown into the air was a cloud. But, the bird couldn't see either, which left it sprawling somewhere within the cloud of snow, stationary for the most part. It left the bird in a weakspot, neck outstretched, giving a clear shot, if Dev could find the bird, to those feathers. [3/3]
Carter Devlin was bucked off successfully but, his form was once more encased in flames and he kept up with the bird, snapping his arm out and releasing a fire whip, compressing it but not releasing it... He would aim to wrap it around the bird's neck and if he missed, the talon. The fire would be so tangible, allowing Carter to hold on for a short period of time, until the whip fizzled out. An explosion of heat erupted from his chest as he flew, spreading out into a 50-foot radius, not completely melting the snow but allowing him some visibility. "THERE YEW AH!" Was roared out as he pushed himself forward, flying underneath the creature, back to the ground and stomach parallel to the bird's. Don' have much left in me... Gotta give it my all! He groaned as he pushed forward now at level with the feathered part of the creature... He reached out and sent a short blast of heat at it before beginning to fall to the ground. He was done [6/6]
The bird had been taken out with the first blast of fire, as the attack had hit it's neck feathers. It would cry out, and then, ice would melt off the animal, leaving only a very large, blue bird laying there. YOU'VE DONE IT![/i] The Headmaster's voice called. The Danger Room turned back into it's original form, and Bryton would rush into the area, looking at Devlin. "You've completed a true test of your abilities. I'm so proud of you Devlin. You controlled yourself expertly," he said. If Devlin was too hot to help up with his hands, Devlin would feel himself being picked up by an unseen force. Bryton knew the kid must be exhausted.
Carter Devlin lay on his back, looking exhausted but utterly fulfilled... He grinned hysterically but his eyes drooped some.. His heat would be brought back down to normal human levels, leaving him somewhat cold.. "An' yew though' Oi wussa problem.. Pahahahaha.." The boy wasn't quite sure what he was talking about as he drifted in and out of consciousness. "Neeha drink an'.. Ivee.. git me Ivee... nee' sum tennner luvvin' an.. maybee.. sum crumpehs an.. ah ciggy.. yeh.. be ah gooh boy an git me those tings, yeh?"
Carter Devlin entered the Danger Room, more or less confused... He had accidentally slept in way too much and had proceeded to run about, collecting his things and changing into his suit.
